Class Syllabus
Each Teacher's Syllabus will vary slightly, but this basic information will be consistent for all 7th grade science classrooms.
Course Unit Schedule:
Device Policy:
Device policies will vary from teacher to teacher, but students must be aware that if a teacher tells you that devices are not allowed, that means devices are not allowed. Use of device at an unapproved time may result in the device being confiscated. If there are multiple offences, a parent or guardian may be required to come to school and pick up the phone from the front office.
Grading Policy:
Johnston County Schools recognize that students learn at different paces and may demonstrate their knowledge in different ways. Due to this, you should be aware of the following practices, in relation to grading.
What does this mean?
Students will be given multiple opportunities to demonstrate their ability to master content, based on NC 7th Grade Standards. Grades from a project that demonstrate mastery are just as important as grades from a test that demonstrate mastery. Students will be graded on each standard separately to help determine which areas they need to focus on in order to master all of the 7th Grade Standards. Some assignments may include more than one NC Essential Standard, so will earn more than one grade.
Grading Scale:
A: 90 - 100
B: 80 - 89
C: 70 - 79
D: 60-69
F: <60
Course Unit Schedule:
- Weather/Climate (September - October)

- All grades entered into the gradebook as a single item will carry equal weight, regardless of assignment type (quiz, project, etc)
- Instructors may use more than 1 piece of evidence to determine a single grade item in the gradebook
- Any student, regardless of grade on on assessment (not homework/classwork) will be given an opportunity for remediation, to improve their demonstration of standard proficiency
- Students with a 59 or lowe will be REQUIRED to complete a remediation assignment and a retest
- Assignments that are not turned in will receive a grade of 1 (not a zero), to make it clear that the assignment was turned in and not that it received a grade of "0"
